CAEN HANDS-ON may 2024

FACIAL APPLIED ANATOMY

A five-day full immersion symposium on facial aesthetic surgery with surgical demonstration and endonasal procedures on anatomic specimens. Participants will stay all the time in the anatomy lab, with half-time listening and watching masters’ demonstration, and half-time practicing.

RESUME

This five-day applied anatomy symposium will be held on 13-14-15-16-17 May 2024 at the University of Caen, France under the auspices of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS). It will focus on the anatomy of the face and nose applied to major surgical procedures.

Anatomical dissections will be followed by demonstrations of surgical techniques. A special time will be devoted to practical work and interactive discussions.

AIMS

  • Review and understand the anatomy of the face and neck.
  • Identify and avoid « danger zones » of the face in cosmetic surgery and medicine.
  • Discuss the indications for surgery and specific cosmetic medicine procedures.
  • Learn the most important surgical techniques in facial aesthetic surgery.
  • Reproduce Step by Step the demonstration presented by the masters

Programme

MODULE 1: PRESERVATION RHINOPLASTY

May, Monday 13th, 2024:
08:00 – 08:30 : Welcome – Coffee – Set-up
08:30 – 09:30 : Topographic Anatomy of the nose. Entering the nose: closed or open approach
09:30 – 10:30 : Septal surgery
10:30 – 11:30 : Lateral bony wall and dorsum undermining
11:30 – 12:30 : Osteotomies (push down) and ostectomies (let down)
12:30 – 13:30 : Lunch break: discussion with tutors
13:30 – 15:00 : The tip work: sutures vs resections
15:00 – 16:00 : Adaptation of the columella: tongue in groove, caudal septum resection, sutures
16:00 – 17:00 : Nostrils and alar base resections
17:00 – 18:00 : Open discussion and practical conclusions – Q/A session

MODULE 2: FACE AND NECK PROCEDURES

May, Tuesday 14th, 2024:

08:30 – 09:00 : Upper Third Anatomy
09:00 – 11:30 : Temporal lift: trans-temporal vs hairline approach. Direct brow lift upper blepharoplasty
11:30 – 13:00 : Periorbital and Middle Third Anatomy. Lower blepharoplasty
13:00 – 14:00 : Lunch break: discussion with tutors
14:00 – 16:00 : Canthopexy vs Canthoplasty
Orbital and Tear through ligament release
Midface lifting: supra and sub-periosteal approach
16:00 – 18:00 : Dissection and discussion about the corresponding techniques

08:30 – 12:30 : Lower Third Anatomy
Mini and Extended incisions, SMAS Management
Release of the retaining ligaments (zygomaticus, masseteric, mandibular, cervical)
Principles of extended deep plane technique Dissection
12:30 – 13:30 : Lunch break: discussion with tutors
13:30 – 14:30 : Neck
14:30 – 16:30 : Neck procedures: platysmaplasty, digastric muscles and sub- mandibular glands management
16:30 – 17:30 : Open discussion and practical conclusions – Q/A session

MODULE 3: ENDONASAL SINUS SURGERY

May, Thursday 16th, 2024:

08:30 – 09:30 : Naso-sinus Surgical Anatomy – Instrumentation
09:30 – 12:30 : Sinus Procedures (Maxillary sinus – Ethmoidectomy), Dissection

13:30 – 16:30 : Sinus Procedures (Sphenoidotomy – Frontal sinus), Dissection
16:30 – 17:30 : Open discussion and practical conclusions – Q/A session
